Disneyland Park is technically smaller than Walt Disney World. Don't let that fool you.
Disneyland Park and its neighbor Disney California Adventure together pack in more rides, shows, and attractions than all four Walt Disney World parks combined — and the whole thing sits in Anaheim, California, close enough to walk between your hotel and the front gate in under ten minutes if you pick the right place to stay.
That's a very different trip from Orlando. Better in some ways. Logistically simpler. And currently in the middle of a 70th anniversary celebration with new shows, parades, and special food offerings that runs well into 2026.

Getting There

Disneyland Resort is located at 1313 Disneyland Drive in Anaheim, California. Three airports serve the area — Los Angeles International (LAX), John Wayne/Orange County (SNA), and Long Beach (LGB). John Wayne is the closest and easiest airport to navigate, sitting less than 20–30 minutes from the resort. LAX is larger and often cheaper for flights but comes with more traffic and a longer drive. Rental cars are available at all three, and rideshare is a practical option for the short trip to Anaheim.
Once at the resort, walking is often the best way to get between your hotel and the parks. Many off-site hotels on Harbor Boulevard are literally steps from the front gate — sometimes closer than Disney's own hotels.

Tickets & Park Hours

Disneyland Park is open year-round. Standard single-day single-park tickets start around $104 and up depending on the day — peak dates cost more, slower periods less. Both a park ticket and a separate theme park reservation are required; reserve your park day the moment you purchase tickets, as popular dates fill months in advance. The Disneyland app handles everything.
Park Hopper tickets let you move freely between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure from 11am onward on the same day — given how close the parks are to each other, it's genuinely worth it. Lightning Lane Multi Pass (paid, available per-visit) lets you book return times for select attractions through the app. For the highest-demand rides like Indiana Jones Adventure or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Lightning Lane Single Pass is available as a separate purchase. Children under 3 enter free.

What to Prioritize

Disneyland Park has unique rides not found anywhere else — Indiana Jones Adventure, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and Pirates of the Caribbean in its original form are all Disneyland exclusives. Fantasyland is immersive and dense. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, where Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance live, is extraordinary. At Disney California Adventure, Radiator Springs Racers and the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: BREAKOUT ride are fan favorites that draw long lines early. Get there at rope drop — being at the gate before it opens pays off significantly.
The Paint the Night Parade returned as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations, running down Main Street with 1.5 million LEDs across floats representing Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Cars, and more. World of Color Happiness at Disney California Adventure is another evening spectacle worth planning around.

Best Times to Visit

No day at Disneyland is truly slow — it's the second most visited theme park in the United States. That said, late January, early May, late August, early September, and early November are reliably less chaotic than peak periods. Avoid the week between Christmas and New Year's entirely. March Spring Break is also very crowded. Halloween and Christmas seasons bring special overlays and seasonal food worth experiencing, but crowds are higher.

Where to Stay

Official Disney hotels — Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel (now rebranded as Pixar Place Hotel), and Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa — offer early park entry (30 minutes before general opening), excellent theming, and the immersive Disney atmosphere. Expect to pay $300+ per night, even at lower occupancy periods. The Grand Californian has a private entrance directly into Disney California Adventure.
Off-site hotels are one of Disneyland's best advantages over Walt Disney World. Desert Inn & Suites and Park Vue Inn are directly across the street from the resort on Harbor Boulevard — under a 5-minute walk to the front gate. Budget rooms here run $80–$150 per night. Howard Johnson Anaheim across the street has a good pool and water playground. Springhill Suites offers large rooms ideal for groups, with a rooftop pool with fireworks views.
