Pen Hir Point is one of those places where we immediately feel the raw power of nature. Located on the Crozon Peninsula in Brittany, France, it is a free-access coastal site known for steep cliffs, open Atlantic views, and dramatic rock formations rising from the sea.
There is no entrance fee and no fixed opening hours, so we can visit freely at any time of the year. The site is completely natural and uncommercialized, which makes the experience feel even more authentic.

Site Access and Conditions

Pen Hir Point is always open:

Even though the site itself is free, nearby activities like boat tours or museums may have separate costs.

What We See at the Cliffs

At Pen Hir, we stand above cliffs rising around 70–90 meters above sea level. Below, strong Atlantic waves shape the coastline continuously.
Offshore, the famous “Tas de Pois” rock formations rise from the water like natural stone towers. These shapes shift in appearance depending on tides and sunlight, creating a constantly changing scene.
On clear days, we can see far along the coastline, including distant headlands, bays, and small islands scattered across the ocean.

Best Time to Visit

Different seasons give us different moods:
- May–June: fresh landscapes, fewer visitors
- July–August: warm weather, busiest period
- September–October: softer light, calmer atmosphere
Best daily timing:
- Morning (before 10:00): peaceful and quiet
- Late afternoon (after 17:00): warm tones and dramatic skies
Midday in summer can be crowded, especially near parking areas.

There are no hotels directly at the site, but nearby towns offer good choices.

- Small hotels: $90–$160 per night

Dining and Local Prices

Although there are no restaurants at the cliff itself, Camaret-sur-Mer has many options:
- Café snacks or light meals: $8–$15
- Seafood-style dishes: $18–$35
- Full restaurant meal: $30–$60 per person
Local bakeries also offer quick takeaway items for under $5, which is perfect for a cliffside picnic.
We recommend bringing water and simple snacks when spending more time at the viewpoint.

Walking Experience and Safety Tips

The walking route from the parking area is short and easy to follow, but the terrain is natural and uneven.
Helpful tips:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes
- Bring a light jacket (wind is common)
- Stay behind marked safety lines
- Be careful near cliff edges, especially after rain
Several viewing platforms along the path give safe and wide-angle views of the coastline.

Nearby Places Worth Exploring

If we want to extend the trip, the Crozon Peninsula offers more beautiful stops:
- Quiet sandy beaches
- Coastal hiking trails with ocean views
- Small villages with local shops and cafés
- Seasonal boat tours around cliffs and sea stacks
These nearby spots can easily turn a short visit into a full-day coastal journey.

Final Thoughts with Lykkers

Lykkers, Pen Hir Point is a place where simplicity meets power. It is free to enter, easy to reach, yet filled with unforgettable ocean scenery and dramatic cliffs.
If we plan it well with transport, timing, and a nearby stay, the experience becomes even richer.
So we can ask ourselves—would we come here for the vast ocean views, or stay longer to enjoy the quiet moments when the sea meets the sky?
